What is the Difference Between Polyethylene Insulation, Polyvinyl Chloride Insulation and Cross-linked Polyethylene Insulation?

Ⅰ. Wide application of polyethylene cable

With the widespread use of social electricity, the application of cables has also become wider. Since the photoelectric wire is easy to cause fire, the cables we use are all protected by insulating materials. Among them, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, and cross link polyethylene are all commonly used cable protective sheath materials for power cables. These three protective sheaths look very similar in name, so many people do not understand the difference between them, thinking that The functions and uses of these three cables are similar. When choosing a cable, people may randomly bought one of them, but the result was that the cable caught fire because it was not suitable, which affected the electricity consumption for a period of time and reduced the quality of life.

Therefore, in order to have a better quality of life, we must distinguish clearly what is a PVC cable, what is a polyethylene cable, and what is a cross link polyethylene cable. Today we are going to tell you the difference.

Ⅱ. The difference between polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, and cross link polyethylene insulation:

1. Polyethylene is referred to as PE, which is a polymer of ethylene, non-toxic; easy to color, good chemical stability, cold resistance, radiation resistance, good electrical insulation, it is suitable for food and medicine packaging materials, making tableware, medical It can also be used as an insulating material for the electronic industry, such as: shielded cables for computers (or cables for intrinsically safe DCS systems).

2. Polyvinyl chloride, referred to as PVC, is a polymer of vinyl chloride. It has good chemical stability and is resistant to acid, alkali and some chemicals. It is resistant to moisture, aging and flame retardant, which will harden at low temperatures.

Polyvinyl chloride is divided into soft plastics and hard plastics. The soft ones are mainly made into films, which are used as packaging materials, rainproof products, agricultural seedling raising films, etc., and can also be used as insulation layers for cables and wires, and artificial leather products; Made of pipes and sheets, pipes are used as water pipes and pipes for conveying corrosion-resistant fluids, and sheets are used as linings and floors for various storage tanks. Such as: 0.6/1kv PVC insulated power cable.

3. Cross link polyethylene XLPE is an important technology to improve the performance of PE. The performance of PE modified by cross-linking can be greatly improved, which not only greatly improves the mechanical properties and environmental stress cracking resistance of PE Performance, chemical corrosion resistance, creep resistance and electrical properties, etc., and the temperature resistance level is significantly improved, which can increase the heat resistance temperature of PE from 70 ° C to more than 90 ° C, thus greatly broadening the PE applications. Therefore, the current cross link polyethylene (XLPE) has been widely used in pipes, films, cable materials and foam products, such as: 35kv and below XLPE insulated power cables.

The above is the difference between PVC, polyethylene and cross link polyethylene insulation that we have popularized for everyone. We hope everyone can understand, and then choose the appropriate insulating material as the cable protective layer according to your actual needs to ensure our life quality.
