Application of TPU Materials for Automotive Parts in the Automotive Industry

Table of Content [Hide]

Automotive parts TPU material is a recyclable material

Currently, there are over 40 million old cars in China each year, and another 10 million cars need to be revamped and scrapped annually. Developed countries in Europe and America have set clear recycling and utilization indicators for plastic parts used in the automobile industry, requiring the plastic recycling rate to reach more than 95%, and utilization rate to over 90%.

TPU is a recyclable thermoplastic elastomer, but the current annual consumption of TPU materials for the Chinese automotive industry is only around 30,000 tons, while TPU plastic alloys and other composite materials undoubtedly provide a huge new market opportunity for the application of new elastic TPU materials in automobiles. In developed countries, about 16% of TPU users come from the automotive industry.

Characteristics of automotive parts TPU materials

Automotive parts TPU materials have excellent wear resistance, fatigue resistance, and high elasticity, and can be used in various automotive parts such as gear shift handles, various coupler liners and washers, wire harness connectors, spiral stretchable wires, cable protectors, toothed belts, steering rod protectors and washers, suspension joints, hydraulic pneumatic systems, suspension membranes, damping membranes, shock absorbers, spring limit blocks, etc. They can also be combined with other plastics or rubbers to be used in parts such as bumpers, airbags, and dust covers.

Of course, TPU's oil resistance and shock resistance in the harness liners and washers of automotive harnesses can effectively protect the electrical safety of automotive circuits and prevent corrosion by other oils and liquids.

Automotive parts TPU materials can also be used to create invisible car wraps for car owners with high demands for personalization. This protects the car's painted surface while also giving the car a wax effect in the sun.

Currently, automotive parts TPU materials and 3D printing technology SLS technology are also making great strides. With the continuous introduction of new products and the gradual expansion of high-end applications, it is believed that their application in the automotive field will be greatly improved, and this will become an important way to reduce the weight of automobiles.
